CHAPTER  I

I.                  Background of The Analysis
Fairy tales is a part of the children’s literature that has a good moral messages. Because of that fairy tales called as a valuable source of children’s literature. In the fairy tales, the character often wants to make life better and often defined as good character and bad character. It used to teach moral and values in the most universal norms. Fairy tales is suitable for child’s age, because their composition of sentences and plot is simple and understandable. But fairy tales can’t be classified as children’s stories, they have special quality of being able to entertain reader of all ages.
Fairy tales are fun, interesting, and appeal the imagination of virtually all readers, so the writer interesting to analysis the fairy tale “ Cinderella ” because the story had famous in all ages level, in more over many countries and we are focused on characterization. We are interesting with this story, because in this story the character defined simply, so the children will be easily to understandable the character and be able to distinguish between good character and bad character to build their good moral.
II.               Student Target
From explained in the background of analysis that fairy tales are suitable for children’s ages, so the fairy tale “ Cinderella “ most suitable for student of Elementary school.










CHAPTER II
Characterization Analysis
Focused on: Characterization
1.     The people / character in the story “ Cinderella “ are :

-         Fairy God Mother
-         Jaq and Gus
-         A Grand Duke
2.     Theory of Characterization
Based on the article of Richard Nordquist, character is an individual (usually a person) in a narrative (usually a work of fiction or creative nonfiction). The act of presenting a character in writing is known as characterization.
Based on the article by Chris Huntly, there are eight kinds of Characters: Protagonist, Antagonist, Reason, Emotion, Sidekick, Skeptic, Guardian, and Contagonist.
Ø  Protagonist : The protagonist can be considred the chief proponent and principal driver of the effort to achieve the story’s goals.
Ø  Antagonist : The Antagonist is the character directly opposed to the Protagonist. It represents the problem that must be solved or overcome for the Protagonist to succeed.
Ø  Reason : This character makes its decisions and takes action on the basis of logic, never letting feelings get in the way of a rational course.
Ø  Emotion : The Emotion character responds with its feelings without thinking, whether it is angry or kind, with disregard for practicality.
Ø  Sidekick : The faithful supporter that has high loyalty, the Sidekick is often aligned with the Protagonist though may also be attached to the Antagonist.
Ø  Skeptic : Skeptic doubts everything, courses of action, sincerity, truth whatever.
Ø  Guardian : The Guardian is a teacher or helper who aids the Protagonist in its quest and offers a moral standard. In this way, the guardian helps the protagonist stay on the proper path to achieve success.
Ø  Contagonist : The Contagonist hinders and delude the Protagonist, tempting it to take the wrong course or approach.

3.      Analysis of characterization
1.      Cinderella(Protagonist)
Ä  Cinderella was an obedient, because she always tractable to her step mother and her step sisters.
Ä  Cinderella was workhorses, show in the story that “ she worked hard all long day, cooking, and cleaning and washing dishes”.
Ä  Cinderella was kind, show in the story “ Cinderella helped the step sisters get ready to a ball “

2.      Prince(Protagonist)
Ä  A handsome prince that has extremely high standars for female companionship.

3.      Step mother(Antagonist)
Ä  Step mother was cruel, show in the story that “ Cinderella’s step mother locked Cinderella in her room, so she can’t try on the slipper.” And when Cinderella running down the stairs, she broke the glass slipper.

4.      Step sister(Antagonist)
Ä  Step sisters were cruel, show in the story when Cinderella want to join to a ball, they were tore at Cinderella’s dress until it hung in rags.
Ä  Step sisters were jealous, show in the story they were angry because Cinderella looked so lovely.

5.      Fairy Godmother(Guardian)
Ä  Fairy Godmother was a kind helper, she helped Cinderella in order to she can join at the ball, show in the story she gave Cinderella a beautiful gown by her magic.

6.      Jaq and Gus(Sidekick)
Ä  Jaq and Gus were faithful mice, they were always support Cinderella and very loved Cinderella, and they also kind. This is show in the story that they sewed a beautiful dress for Cinderella in order to Cinderella be able went to the ball.
Ä  They were solidarity friends, they cried when Cinderella cried, they also always helped Cinderella, show in the story that they helped Cinderella step outside from a room that had locked by her Step mother.

7.      Grand duke(Sidekick)
Ä  Grand duke was a faithful grand duke of the kingdom.





















CHAPTER III
